Catching Up with Derek Cowburn from LumenCache

Jim Young introduced me to Derek Cowburn, and the concept of the DC micro grid, at the 2015 Realcomm|IBcon conference. Jim believes that Derek has a technology that will radically change how we power devices. When the ever prophetic, Jim Young speaks, we listen.

Derek’s technology is in the mix of the green tech wave that is upon us. The greentech wave has changed all ends of the grid.High Voltage DC (HVDC) can be used to connect massive national grids together by resolving the AC phase synchronization problem. Data centers and mid scale solar arrays are using 380vDC. Without using Solar and Battery solutions Net Zero Energy (NZE) homes and buildings are a fantasy.Among other things, LumenCache provides the adaptive technology that allows Direct Current (DC) devices. LEDs, Solid State Lighting, and all electronic devices are DC internally to work with AC power.

Not all lighting solutions are created equal. With the advent of LED lights the game has changed. LED lights consume less power and last longer than traditional bulbs. To fully take advantage of the LED technology look at power source solutions, like those provided by LumenCache. The LumenCache platform replaces traditional 110V AC power distribution in buildings with a new standard more appropriate to the low power needs and digital capabilities of electronic devices like LED lights.

Many thanks to Derek. We will track this trend and keep tabs on Derek and LumenCache for the ControlTrends community.
