Haystack Webinar Tuesday, November 12th, 2013 – Call for Speakers! As part of our ongoing effort to promote Haystack a number of supporters are coming together to produce our first webinar. The webinar will be presented at 11AM ET, on Tue Nov 12, 2013. John Petze has volunteered to moderate and we are now looking for 3-4 speakers to provide presentations. If you are working with Haystack and feel you can help convey the importance and benefits of moving to Haystack data modeling techniques we want you to join us as a presenter. We are allotting 12-15 minutes for each speaker. The goal is to present a concise example of how you see Haystack data modeling helping your business and that of the webinar attendees.
What is Haystack? Project Haystack is an open source initiative to develop tagging conventions and taxonomies for building equipment and operational data. We define standardized data models for sites, equipment, and points related to energy, HVAC, lighting, and other environmental systems. A simple REST API is defined to facilitate exchange of Haystack data over HTTP.
Why Do We Need Haystack? Macro trends in technology are making it increasingly cost effective to instrument and collect data about the operations and energy usage of buildings. We are now awash in data and the new problem is how to make sense of it. Today most operational data has poor semantic modeling and requires a manual, labor intensive process to “map” the data before value creation can begin. Pragmatic use of naming conventions and taxonomies can make it more cost effective to analyze, visualize, and derive value from our operational data.
