Published in Linkedin on September 27, 2018. Commercial real estate operators and building owners are adapting to the change in building automation technology that is occurring in the industry. Innovation has reshaped how we manage, operate and interact with our buildings and facilities. Connected systems, data and analytics is broadening our conversation in the world of smart buildings — engaging not only facility operators in the discussion, but the C-Suite as well.
Today, most have embraced the fact that technology is the game changer and is the cornerstone of operating buildings as an economic model. As the technology surrounding engineering design and energy management systems have evolved, so has the dialogue around smart buildings. Driven by digital transformation and a change in value propositions; changes in the role of facilities are shifting to create healthy, safe and productive environments.
A few years ago, the dialogue focused on energy, efficiency and lower operating costs.
So, what about now? What is the dialogue and conversations that are making their presence felt within our buildings and workplaces? How has it changed?
The following is a then vs. now comparison outlining how the dialogue has changed. While I am sure additional items may be added, this presents some of the important evolution that has occurred in the industry. Click here to see complete list!
As the landscape for smart buildings has evolved, so has the speak.
The dialogue today is no longer about the potential — rather it is about the reality of economics through driving operational value and business outcomes. The business of smart commercial buildings and facilities is moving beyond fear of the unknown and into a new era of empowerment.

Lynxspring, Inc., a premier developer and provider of open, IP-control solutions for building automation, energy management, and edge-to-enterprise integration, announced today the full release of their Onyxx® SkySpark® Edge Analytics solution which embeds SkyFoundry’s SkySpark® Everywhere™ Analytics software in the Lynxspring Onyxx® Hardware platform.
LEE’S SUMMIT, MO. (PRWEB) JULY 18, 2018
Lynxspring, Inc. (https://www.lynxspring.com), a premier developer and provider of open, IP-control solutions for building automation, energy management, and edge-to-enterprise integration, announced today the full release of their Onyxx® SkySpark® Edge Analytics solution which embeds SkyFoundry’s SkySpark® Everywhere™ Analytics software in the Lynxspring Onyxx® Hardware platform.
The popular Lynxspring Onyxx® Hardware platform was specifically designed to bring advanced IoT software applications to the “edge.” The Onyxx® Hardware family of modular, open, hardware, bridges and gateways support edge-to-enterprise and Cloud applications across multiple market segments.
SkySpark® Everywhere™ enables the full capabilities of SkyFoundry’s SkySpark® Analytics software to be deployed in a distributed architecture where multiple nodes work together to perform analytics at the edge, while still providing users with a unified view of their data and analytic results. It makes use of the Project Haystack tagging and data model to add semantic descriptions to data, giving the data structure and context in a uniform, normalized manner. Haystack tagging enables users to easily understand what each piece of data means and how it fits into the overall building.
By embedding SkySpark® Analytics on the Onyxx® Hardware platform, Lynxspring has created an advanced control and analytics solution that performs data acquisition, storage and automated analytics locally at the device-level, providing real-time intelligence without requiring data to be sent to the Cloud for analysis. The Onyxx® SkySpark® Edge Analytics solution supports data access via BACnet IP, Modbus TCP, Obix, Project Haystack, SNMP, OPC UA, MQTT, SQL, CSV import and a REST API to enable connection to the vast majority of equipment and control systems found in buildings. The Onyxx® SkySpark® Edge Analytics solution includes an extensive Library of built-in analytic functions, as well as customizable visualizations and reports.
“Building owners and operators are looking for faster, near real-time analysis of the mass volumes of data produced by equipment systems to improve operational decision-making. It is now being said that the data produced by a device is now more valuable than the cost of the device,” said Marc Petock, Chief Communications Officer and Vice President, Marketing at Lynxspring. “Real-time access to data within buildings and facilities is now mandatory and no longer optional. We are in an era where we need to provide customers a way to capture data from different sources, make it consistent and meaningful, and be able to analyze it and use it in multiple IoT applications.”
“The value we are bringing to the user is the ease by which they can now manage and control equipment efficiency, energy consumption and reducing operating costs by employing advanced analytics to identify issues, faults and trends in the data produced by equipment systems,” said John Petze, Co-Founder and COO of SkyFoundry. “The software functions required to process, analyze and visualize equipment data need to reside at every level of the architecture, from the edge to the Cloud. The combination of Lynxspring’s Onyxx® Hardware platform with SkySpark® Everywhere™ Analytics software, makes the Lynxspring Onyxx® SkySpark® Edge Analytics solution an ideal solution for all types of buildings, facilities and equipment systems.”

Dear Lynxspring Business Partner, 30 Minutes with Lynxspring, our monthly Webinar series hosted by Lynxspring subject matter experts and special guests, returns Wednesday, February 21st at 12:00 CST.
Amanda Toomey, a member of our Training Team, will discuss creating Niagara 4 templates. She will provide an overview of creating templates in Niagara 4. Templating allows users to reuse pieces of logic in future projects without recreating links, graphics, and re-tagging objects. Templated logic can dynamically reach out and find existing points in the station based on tag patterns to allow for rapid connections to external logic. Further, templates can be set to prompt the user for default values and activation of extensions such as histories.
When: February 21, 2018
Time: 12:00 PM CST
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information on how to join the webinar session.
