What is BACnet and Why is it Important to Smart Buildings?

What is BACnet? Why is it important to controlling Smart Buildings? To get a simple to understand answer we turned to George Thomas and his team at Contemporary Controls. Contemporary Controls designs and manufactures the system building blocks for networking, integrating and controlling automation processes. Their products are built upon open technologies such as ARCNET®, BACnet®, Controller Area Network, Ethernet, Modbus®, Niagara Framework®, and Sedona Framework™, and are typically found in building and industrial automation industries.

In this very informative video you will learn, among other things, that BACnet is a communications protocol for Building Automation and Control Networks. One of its primary appeals is that it provides “interoperability” among different vendor’s equipment. This frees the building owner from dependence on one vendor when the time comes for system expansion.

George and his team are up for several ControlTrends Awards Nominations so be sure to click here to nominate your Smart Buildings and Building Automation Controls favorites.
