Many people in the Smart Buildings Controls Industry believe that Jim Stiber of Control Consultants, Inc., might be the best of the best when it comes to VAV controlers and VAV sytems. In this video Jim shares his impression of the new EASY IO FW-8V control solution.
The EasyIO-FW-14 is a new breed, high performance, freely programmable, wireless Wi-Fi Sedona controller. It has never been easier to extend your BMS because of its wireless possibilities. You will save on labor and wiring. The EasyIO-FW-14 is a perfect fit for vertical markets such as schools and retail, to have extended IO for the F-series controllers, without any downtime during installation as the network can be wireless. It’s ideal for all kind of applications such as fan coils, AHU’s, room and stand-alone applications, featuring SOX, TCOM, FGP2P and BACnet communication protocols.
The EasyIO-FW-14 can be programmed and live commissioned via free CPT Tools and an integrated HMTL5 dashboard. It has BACnet IP server, a BACnet MSTP client supporting up to four external BACnet server devices and two Ethernet ports for daisy chain connection wiring. Furthermore, it can also have the built-in Wi-Fi infrastructure connected at the same time as the Ethernet ports for network redundancy. Wired and wireless deployment is encouraged, so there is no need to worry about IT. The EasyIO-FW-14 includes 8 UI (voltage and resistance), 4 x AO (Voltage) and 2 x DO with 24VAC volt free contact relays. For floating control, the optional FR-02 module is available to add to the FW-14.

Stromquist & Company’s, Tim Chamblee, who is also one of the best trainers in the HVAC industry, breaks down different ways to measure energy in smart buildings in this replay of a live stream training. Video does not actually start until about 10 minutes in, so be sure to skip forward.
Buildings are responsible for 40% of global energy use and contribute towards 30% of the total CO2 emissions. The drive to reduce energy consumption and associated greenhouse gas emissions from buildings has acted as a catalyst in the increasing installation of meters and sensors for monitoring energy use and indoor environmental conditions in buildings.
Although electric metering is most common, metering gas and water are also critical. A product like the Belimo Energy Valve can give you the best of all worlds, in that it is a very percise control valve but also meters BTU’s and GPM.
In addition it is important to meter indoor air quality.
This is the first of several interviews from the 2016 CGNA Controls Conference. We caught up with Mike Sackett, the director of CGNA.
