AHR 2022: 150 Building Automation Exhibits in 22 Hours. So Much Show and So Little Time.

It’s great to read the assurances that the 2022 AHR Expo will take place Jan. 31 – Feb. 2 at the Las Vegas Convention Center as scheduled! Use their awesome AHR MyShow Planner App and create your sessions and appointment calendar!

Pre-show Notes:

Safety is top of mind.  Masking is required at all times (including those vaccinated), and with increased ventilation inside the convention hall, there will be plenty of fresh air.  The weather in Vegas will be chilly: Highs: mid-60’s, Lows: mid-to-high-30’s.  If you’re planning to work the show all three days, think shoes.  You’ll be walking miles and the hotel gets farther away each day.

I once wrote an article, “Trade Shows, can’t live with them, can’t live without them.” That sentiment has changed. Trade Shows are vital to the future of our industry.  The Building Automation and HVAC worlds have changed drastically, and so have many of the key people.  You’ve got to renew your relationships with your existing vendors (because the landscape may have changed and you might be late to learn about it).  And, equally important, you must keep your eye out for the next emerging Real Deal.  Big shout out to Ken Sinclair and Scott Cochrane for their efforts to put the free AHR Expo Educational Sessions together. Click here for schedule.

On the lighter side:   Sometimes, the big vendors booths seem reminiscent of embassies out of the Cold War era. Large, powerful, overly populated and ornate institutions, with spies lurking inside and out (just kidding).

Quick Hitters

Plan your time wisely. Of the 1,589 Exhibitors, Building Automation alone has 115 exhibits!  (218) Education Sessions Scheduled, (85) Free Industry Sessions, (114) New Products and Technology Presentations, and (4) Free ASHRAE Conference Presentations.

Make sure to visit the Niagara Prime Vendors of Building Automation.  Tridium (C3124), Honeywell (C3124), Johnson Controls (C1336), Siemens Talon(C1540), KMC Controls(C1444), Lynxspring (C953)

Leading New (and old) Technology Providers:  PassiveLogic (C1388, C1488), makes its AHR maiden voyage and will be featuring their Zero to Automation in 30 Minutes.  BrainBox AI (C1788), 75F (C975), Contemporary Controls (C974), Functional Devices (C1352), ACI (C1780).

Be on the Lookout!

If you see this guy, make a quick decision:  Flee!  Or, prepare yourself for a ControlTrends interview that may go viral.  That’s right, Eric drove all the way from Atlanta for good reason and will be camera and video ready —  looking to capture the best of the 2022 AHR Expo and share it with the ControlTrends Community.  It will be marvelous to see and hear from the many high-caliber professionals that make our industry so great.

Diary of a former Show Attendee:

Day 1 (10:00AM – 6:00PM) Energy Level 100%.  8 hours of heavy show effort.  Fired up.  Plus, ready for extreme night of networking.

Day 2 (1:00PM – 6:00PM) Energy Level at 50%.     5 hours of medium show effort, with many breaks. Last night in Vegas.  Afterburner ignites.  Another night of extreme networking.

Day 3 (10:00AM – 12:00PM) Energy Level at 15%.  Out of Gas.  Was 2 hours of agony.  Leaving for the airport early is just smart thinking.  No networking today.

Note to self:  Congratulations, again to the genius who first substituted the term “networking” for “customer development” on their expense account.  Well done.
