How to Use AI to Get Into Smart Buildings

ControlTrends shows how to create using AI for smart building controls

Happy Monday ControlTrends Community!

Let’s get smart about artificial Intelligence

In this post, I explore some AI (artificial intelligence) creative tools and how they help get you into Smart Buildings.  When I say “get into” I mean your message, making it past all the noise, into the hearts and minds of people that can choose to buy your products or services.

Someone once asked bank robber Willie Sutton why he robbed banks? His response, known as “Suttons Law” was; “Because that is where the money is.”

Some AI tools, as we shall see, are great at finding “the banks”. They are good at locating people already searching for and reading about the products and services you provide.

AI tools are great at having customers find you by making sure your SEO is on point. Get your SEO right and Google pushes your content into the infinite sea of potential customers. Getting your SEO right is the 20% in the 80/20 rule. One of the AI tools I show you in this post excels in beating Google at its own game.

Finally, AI tools can help you write better content. They can help write blog posts, emails, reports, ads, profiles, and even love letters.

In this post, I use several popular AI creative tools to give you a feel for what they look like and how well they work.

But first , what do the following Four questions have in common?

How can you increase the ROI in your building?

How can Your Building Enhance the occupant experience?

Why the traditional BMS is Longer Robust Enough?

What is a building automation control system?

These are in the top ten frequently asked questions for the key phrase “Smart Building Controls” as determined by the AI tool Frase AI.

Frase AI.uses artificial intelligence to search the internet on a topic or key phrase and creates an SEO- optimizer brief. It includes the main keywords, headers, concepts, and titles of the top ten posts in your query. Feed this information back into Frase AI and it writes content for you.

When I asked Frase AI to write an intro paragraph answering the question, “What is a building automation control system?”

Here is Frase AI response:

“Otherwise known as a Smart Building Controls System,  is a Building Automation Control system used in buildings to automate or control certain functions within the building. They can be used to reduce energy consumption, improve safety, increase productivity, and even save lives. The most common types of smart building technologies include lighting systems, heating/cooling systems, fire suppression systems, security systems, and HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems.”  Frase.AI

Not bad for 3.5 seconds of AI thinking. I will discuss, a little later in this post, why letting AI do all your writing is not a good idea.

Use the titles and inputs Frase AI gives you, and you should rank high on Google.

Frase AI reduces hours of work into seconds.

For Example, I want to write a blog on Smart Building Controls. Frase AI finds the top ten ranked posts using this keyword and finds the connections that have these rank higher than all the others. So we know that for Smart Building Controls we need the average word count to be 973 words, with 5 headers, 2 links, and 14 images.

It lists the top ten posts showing the headers, keywords, and concepts. It provides a link back to the content creators post, so I can see the article. The amount of useable information is mind-blowing.

It searches Google, Reddit, and Quora to find the most frequently asked questions for any key phrases.

This is huge if you are looking for something to write about, and want to answer the questions potential customers are asking.

Here are the most frequently asked questions regarding Smart Building Controls followed by the top questions asked about Master Systems Integrators:

  1. How Can Distech Controls Increase the ROI of Your Building?
  2. How can your building enhance the the occupant experience?
  3. Why the Traditional BMS Is No Longer Robust Enough?
  4. How IoT Is Reshaping the BMS Sector?
  5. How We Make Your Building Smarter?
  6. What Is a Building Automation System?

And regarding Master Systems Integrator:

  1. Why do connected systems matter?
  2. What’s the difference between an MSI and an SI?
  3. Why do you need an MSI?
  4. Now, what’s a good MSI?
  5. Why is the industry moving towards MSIs?
  6. How do I become an MSI?
  7. What is a Master Systems Integrator?
  8. How does an MSI differ from your standard BMS company?

This relevant information gathered so quickly makes Frase AI a great tool for anyone that creates content and needs to rank for SEO. Frase AI has some great writing tools that use their AI algorithm. The AI writing tab has several useful templates such as Feature-Benefit, next sentence, paragraph finisher, and sentence rewriter.

Here is a look at the dashboard

Most AI content creation tools use a technology called GPT3.

Let’s ask Jarvis AI, another AI writing tool, that uses GPT3, to write a paragraph answering the question what is GPT3?

Here is Jarvis AI  unedited response:“GPT3 stands for “Google Paragraph Transformer 3,” which is their third-generation neural network-based machine translation system that translates text from one language to another. It was developed by Google Brain team with input from other teams within Google including Google Translate, YouTube, Search, Apps, Maps, etc. The main difference between this version of GPT3 and previous versions are that it can now translate paragraphs as well as sentences or phrases into various languages. This has allowed them to demonstrate the use of GPT3 in a wide variety of text-based applications. In this article, I’m going to be focusing on how GPT3 is being used in content creation.” Jarvis AI.

That is Incorrect !!!!

One of the big problems with AI writing programs is if they don’t know they just make stuff up!

Most of the time they get it right, but when they are wrong, they can be way off.

You have to  fact-check everything an AI writing bot writes.  Everything!

The  correct answer is:

“GPT-3, or the third generation Generative Pre-trained Transformer, is a neural network machine learning model trained using internet data to generate any type of text. Developed by OpenAI ( The company was founded by Elon Musk and Sam Altman in 2015), it requires a small amount of input text to generate large volumes of relevant and sophisticated machine-generated text.

GPT-3’s deep learning neural network is a model with over 175 billion machine learning parameters. To put things into scale, the largest trained language model before GPT-3 was Microsoft’s Turing NLG model, which had 10 billion parameters.”

Let’s give Jarvis AI a chance to redeem itself.

Jarvis AI excels at helping write blog posts.

Let’s have Jarvis AI help us write a blog post answering one of the most frequently asked questions:

Why the Traditional BMS Is No Longer Robust Enough?

I added a couple of other inputs and gave Jarvis AI the command “ write a blog intro paragraph about the above.” Here is what I got:

“As buildings become more and more complex, the need for a robust building management system (BMS) becomes increasingly important. A BMS allows you to monitor and manage devices in your building remotely, making it easier to keep track of everything that’s going on. However, traditional BMSs are no longer up to the task. They don’t provide enough information about how much energy is being used, and they can’t handle the complexity of modern buildings. That’s why we need new technology like the Internet of Things (IoT) to help us connect everything from our doors to our lights. With connected systems, we can integrate building operations into one cohesive whole, making life easier for everyone involved.”

Not bad for seven seconds worth of work. The results get better the more inputs the AI programs are given, if the first draft doesn’t work , click a button and you can get as many re-writes as you like.

Now I can take what Jarvis AI has written and ask it to create a blog outline and in 6.5 seconds:

1. Traditional BMS are becoming outdated because of new technology

2. BMSs don’t provide enough information about how much energy is being used

3. The Internet of Things (IoT) allows us to connect everything from our doors to our lights

4. Connected systems can be integrated into building operations

5. Master systems integrators need special skills and must be well versed in all systems in the building

6. As buildings become more and more complex, the need for a robust building management system (BMS) becomes increasingly important

7. With connected systems, we can integrate building operations into one cohesive whole.

I have something I can work with. I can flush out this outline into an article.

ControlTrends Tip: AI tools are just that..tools. Use them to help you with your writing, not to do your writing for you.

Make sure AI tools content do not replace the creator, as Chad, (from AI Content dojo)  says,”They make great writing assistants, but should not be used to replace the writer.”

He does a deep dive into different AI tools on his You Tube Channel. He has good video tutorials. If you decide to purchase Frase.Ai, he has a discount code that will save you some big bucks.

AI tools can also be used to create images.

Do you like the featured image?  I created it with a free AI tool called starry.ai. Let’s create an image now:

First we enter a Key phrase “  Smart thermostats. in style of Banksy ( famous graffiti artist) or same input but in the style of DaVinci”… here is what I got:

These are not necessarily great works of art. Art is a matter of personal taste. To get the imagination going, starry.ai is a great creative tool.

ControlTends Tip: Download and try an AI tool. They all have free trials.

 ControlTrends Take Away:

To sell into a Smart Building you have to get the attention of Smart Building players. To get access you must write content that ranks high on Google; so your content gets found, in this, AI tools are very helpful. But the content they create, good as it can be, is impersonal…as you know from my last post...

Impersonal is out, personal is in. You have to add the personal. AI tools make great assistants, in the case of Frase AI they do great research, and in the case of programs like Jarvis AI they help with writer’s block can help you write better.

Remember……fact-check AI outputs for accuracy!

AI tools help in everything from research to emails to blog posts, to product announcements. Major marketing and copywriting firms use these tools to generate great content, and now you can too.

If you have any doubt about AI being around, check this out:

I asked Jarvis AI to write a paragraph on why using AI to create is bad:

“A lot of people think that Artificial Intelligence (AI) writing tools will be the death of creativity and innovation in modern society. They feel like AI is taking away jobs because it can produce content much faster than a human can. However, this couldn’t be farther from the truth. AI has been used to create some amazing things through its use of algorithms and machine learning. For instance, an algorithm was able to write a song by itself for the first time ever! This breakthrough could give artists more time to focus on their creative process without worrying about coming up with lyrics or music ideas all day long. With these new advancements in technology, there are endless possibilities for what we can do as humans!” -Jarvis AI

Jarvis is  clearly drinking it’s own Kool Aid, and is smart enough not to self-destruct!

In my next post, we will explore what you can learn from this guy, about creating a personal style that will help you dominate your market.

Until then, Remember, Be Bold, Stay in Control, and Stay Relevant!
