ControlTrends Interviews UK’s Smart Building DALI Lighting Experts Mike Welch and Graham Turner

ControlTrends traveled to Basingstoke, United Kingdom, to meet with DALI experts Mike Welch and Graham Turner and get the current 411 on Digital Addressable Lighting Interface (DALI). It was an opportune time because Mike and Graham were preparing for the upcoming Energy Event 2014 trade show next week at NEC Birmingham, UK. Our conclusions: Despite the present maturity of the Smart Buildings market, lighting integration opportunities still abound, and the Niagara AX systems integrators, incorporating DALI technology into their solutions are in an especially auspicious position to tap the lighting integration market.

CNSMike Welch of Controls Network Solutions is excited about DALI’s future, literally, and not just about DALI’s integration of low-hanging light-fruit, but the future-proof solutions DALI offers building owners. Mike’s article “How to Avoid Stranded Investments in Intelligent Buildings” explains in great detail, that DALI is a converged solution and as changes are made within the building space, control over the DALI lighting remains absolute.

Also, many of the market headwinds and barriers are diminishing as the pricing of DALI components are normalizing in the North American markets. There are fewer risks and more instances of successful large-scale deployments. Control Network Solutions offers Niagara AX integrators a certified partner program and the additional expertise to navigate past the lighting market’s history and the lighting specification split between the mechanical and electrical sections. Incorporating EnOcean technology into the existing DALI product platform and tools will only enhance and accelerate deployments.

onesightGraham Turner, with OneSight Solutions,a well-established distributor and solutions provider shares his perspective on DALI, as one of UK’s leading building and data center intergators. Many of the building’s systems are already on the Niagara network and this is fantastic opportunity to bring the whole lighting architecture onto the Niagara network as well.
