On behalf of the CABA Board of Directors, we thank you and the entire 20,000+ industry professionals that have taken advantage of CABA research and information in this past 25th Anniversary Year. To close out the year, we are pleased to announce that the two (2) CABA Landmark Research Projects have been finalized.
The CABA “Life Cycle Costing of Intelligent Buildings” research project identifies the barriers to adopting life cycle costing and determines what issues need to be rectified in order to make life cycle cost processes more understandable. The Report was sponsored by: buildingSMART Alliance/NIST, Cadillac Fairview Corporation Limited, Consolidated Edison Co. of New York, Inc., CSA Group, Hydro One Networks, Hydro-Québec, Honeywell, International Facility Management Association (IFMA), Ingersoll Rand/Trane, Johnson Controls, Microsoft Corporation, PCN Technology, Inc., Philips, Public Works and Government Services Canada, Siemens Industry, Inc., The Siemon Company, Southern California Edison and WattStopper/Legrand. With CABA and members as the Project Sponsor, the report was authored by Frost & Sullivan. So that many more end-users become educated on LCCIB, the complete Report is now available free to all industry stakeholders, at: www.caba.org/lccib. Please forward this info to any colleague or industry stakeholder that could benefit from this research.
CABA has also completed its “Monetization of the Connected Home” Landmark Research Report. The research examined the connected home value chain and the insights gained from value chain categorization, benchmarking and analysis of current monetization practices and models identified existing gaps, and the potential for change in existing models or in new model development. The research focused on the identification and understanding of behaviors and practices, potential new affiliations and partnerships, and the analysis of end-user desires and adoption points, translating into optimized revenue models. The Monetization report was sponsored by: Alarm.com, American Honda Motor Co., Inc., Arrayent, BOSCH, fifthplay, Hydro One Networks Inc., Honeywell International, Hydro-Québec, IBM, Lowe’s Companies, Inc., Panasonic, Pella Corporation, Qualcomm Incorporated, Samsung, Schneider Electric, SecurTek Monitoring Solutions, Southern California Edison and TELUS. The Monetization report was authored by IHS Electronics & Media. The research has been released to its sponsors and the executive summary of the report is only available to those with a CABA Research Subscription/Membership. After an embargo period, the full report will be made available to the industry for a reasonable fee and there will be a special workshop as outlined below.

We hope that you will also attend CABA’s Intelligent Buildings & Digital Home Forum in Washington, DC on April 2, 2014. The location has not been selected yet, but the CABA Board meeting will be held on April 1 (no fooling) and hosted by Honeywell International at their facilities. The event will be collocated with the 2014 Building Energy Summit that CoR Advisors is hosting on April 1, also in Washington, DC. A joint reception is being planned for the participants of the two events.
The recent Nov. 19, 2013 CABA Forum in Philadelphia was a great success and based on good feedback, there will be several changes to the next program. For the first time, a workshop on the recent CABA “Monetization of the Connected Home” research report, will be held from 8:30 AM – 12 Noon on April 3, 2013. CABA is now seeking Forum speakers, sponsors and tour opportunities for “connected homes and intelligent buildings.” For anyone not familiar with the quality of the speakers and sessions at the CABA Forum, please review the past agenda at: http://docs.caba.org/documents/FORUM-Info.pdf.
Finally, CABA received many testimonials from the last Forum as this one by Bob Allan, The Siemon Company: “I have attended many industry events and, as a first-time attendee, the CABA Intelligent Buildings & Digital Home Forum was by far the best industry event that I have ever attended.” More CABA Forum details will be forthcoming in early January 2014.
We wish you the very best this Holiday Season and thank you for your strong support of CABA and the connected homes and integrated systems industry.
