Republicans and Democrats Debate the National Debt, but agree Light Litter Must be Stopped: The Sarah Connor Controls Chronicles

I’m fed up with waste!  In this edition of the Sarah Connor Control Chronicles, we are talking about senseless waste, and it is everywhere!  Years from now, when 2012 is just an entry in the history books, the bold print will read “Gluttons Waste Precious Resources.” Remember that I’ve seen the future, and it’s my mission to wake you up before it’s too late.

Waste is everywhere you look.  Start with the trash can.  In big, bold letters, it should say “My contribution to Earth’s landfill problem.” Before you click “Print,” there should be an “Accept” disclaimer that “A tree must die so I can have a hardcopy.” We could go on and on, but as a society, we accept the fact that today, we added $4,901,587,907.28 to the national debt. Tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day it will be the same, adding about $4 billion daily to the $16 trillion we already owe.

Oh, that leads us to politics, so let’s just point the finger and blame this all on the opposing political party, whichever that may be for you.  Blah, blah, blah! This reminds me of old Aunt Mildred who spent her whole life talking about how she was going to lose 50 pounds, but she never made it a point to just lose 5 pounds.  Has waste become so accepted that we are desensitized to it, or is the problem so big that we have no idea where to even start to make things better?

Well, I may not be a politician, but now is the time to start devouring the enemy of excessive waste one bite at a time.  Let’s look at an easy $2 billion we can easily save first, and we won’t even notice one little hunger pain. Light Litter!  Those outside lights that are left on during daylight hours are a total waste of our planet’s precious, non-renewable energy resources, and a drain on our economy.  Yet have we heard any of our politicians talk about Light Litter?  Should we not start managing our waste with this simple solution?
