The Daikin-Intel disruption bell tolled rather loudly and clearly at the June 2014 Realcom/IBcon show in Las Vegas. Daikin, one of the world’s largest and most progressive equipment manufacturers, had already rolled out their Rebel Rooftop line, which put them in the pole position (kinda), because merging equipment and controls by utilizing the potency of IoT and new disruptive technology is great and does offer additional value to Daikin’s customers.
Daikin Applied Executive VP, Kevin Facinelli’s video says it all! Yet, for the savvy controls contractor or systems integrator, this poses a challenge. Daikin’s equipment brings intercommunication between equipment, building integration, and the benefits of cloud analytics — via Intel’s Intelligent Gateway — that really seems to do it all, and securely. But! The data (and integration business) doesn’t go through the building BMS network. Hmm, comments, please.
Additional Info: The Intelligent Equipment solution provides building owners the ability to have 24/7 real-time access to the building information and manage operations in a way that was previously unattainable. Daikin Applied products can automatically inform a support organization before they break down so customer service can move from a reactive to a preventative service model.
The Intelligent Equipment solution allows building owners, managers and technicians to have access to the same building information, on the same platform. This capability provides the opportunity for the key members in building management to coordinate their efforts at a higher level.
Another awesome collection of industry collaboration from Ken and Jane Sinclair, and the contributing editors at AutomatedBuildings.com. In the words of Ken Sinclair, “Although our August theme seems like an oxymoron the cloud enables us to “Work Together” while flexing our greatest resource our people, a group of individuals that separately create pieces that fit the cloud puzzle. I recently found clarity in the cloud and have started talking funny but now have a clearer vision of our future, a collaborative mosaic of our industry “Working Together, Separately”.
AutomatedBuildings.com is a great example; Jane and I working separately from the industry as publishers of a B2B magazine generating the content which is the result of our collaboratory of all the working together folks to create something we hope is useful to the industry. Open standards group like Haystack, BACnet, are based on working together but are powered by separate individuals. In Anto’s interview he tells of his free web service that brings all events together for us as a web service. He is working together separately. I have included a quick review of a digital signage company that uses their working together collaboratory to help sell their individual services.
The core of all powerful web services is providing the ability for us to work together for free or at a very low cost in the cloud, but this all happens with separate individuals building these services.
Our future is clear; we need to identify our collaboratory resources that will take us to the outer edges of the IoT of buildings, but we need to clearly convey how our individuals will add value, and why they must be part of your collaboratory.”
